In today’s article, I’m going to tell you the simple process for checking your car’s battery acid level. The first point I’m going to tell you is to be sure that you wear protective gloves. While the acid in your car’s battery won’t seriously hurt you, it’s best to keep it off you if possible or to at least wash it off quickly. Of course, it’s poisonous if swallowed, so don’t do that.

Now that we have that out of the way, the first thing you have to be sure of is that your battery is serviceable. That means that it has two little plastic plates or covers on the top of it that you can remove with a screwdriver’s flat blade. Once you have these removed, you will want to check to be sure that there is sufficient fluid in the battery. If not, use distilled low-mineral content water to fill it to the lines in the case or at least until the plates on the bottom of the battery are covered. If filled properly, you will use the dropped In tester kit to draw some of the solutions up into the dropper. At that point, all that is left is to examine the balls in the tester to determine the condition of the fluid.
